It’s been 20 years since Canadian chefs had the chance to compete in a World Association of Chefs Societies (WACS) competition on Canadian soil.
It takes place at the Canadian Restaurant and Food Association (CRFA) Show which takes place March 2-4 at the Direct Energy Centre in Toronto at Exhibition place.
It is very much like a pre-olympics of cooking and indeed helps to prepare competitors for international events such as the World Culinary Olympics in 2016.
About 30 chefs will be competing in the world standard event, held under the auspices of the Canadian Culinary Federation.

The event is rather different than the reality cooking shows one sees on TV. Adjudicated by officially recognized WACS judges, the various entries will be coated with gelatin to preserve them during viewing by the public.
The contestants will compete in culinary arts and pastry arts for gold, silver or bronze medal glory, and Best of Show prizes. There will be categories for individuals and teams, novices, and professionals.
