If Montreal Mayor Denis Coderre has his way, Montrealer’s will soon be able to drink until the sun comes up, at least during the summer when the sun rises that early.
Mayor Coderre is championing a move to extend the drinking hours in Montreal bars until 6 am from the current 3 am.

If it passes, it will beat out Toronto’s recent move to extend the drinking hours in that city from 2 am until 4 am. A group of Torontonians are at work on a petition to make it an issue in the upcoming municipal election in Canada’s largest city.
But Montreal has had the reputation of being Canada’s ‘sin-city’ since the early days of the 20th century. During the American prohibition era, rum-runners travelled the corridor between the largely French-speaking city in the province of Quebec, back and forth to New York City.
