Who tips most in Canada

New information gathered about the tipping habits of Canadians indicates that people living in western, boom-town of Calgary are the worst tippers. It is usual in Canada for people to tip for services from restaurants, taxis, spas, hairdressers and bars, and also for personal services such as private fitness instruction and massage. People who receive gratuities at work often have lower minimum wages as guaranteed by law. Who tips them and by how much varies across the country.

Calgarians tip just 59.4 per cent of the time and the average tip is 13.3 per cent, according to information gathered by mobile payments company Square. According to information from five cities surveyed, people in the western city of Vancouver were the next most miserly, tipping only 62 per cent of the time, and adding an average of 13.4 per cent in gratuities.

Biggest tippers were in the nation’s capital Ottawa where people tipped 76.6 per cent of the time with an average gratuity of 15.6 per cent. People in Toronto and Montreal were in the middle with Torontonians tipping more money, but Montrealers tipping more often.
