The Canadian Broadcasting Corporation will cut 657 jobs due to a $130-million shortfall. That’s eight per cent of the workforce. The public broadcaster was already struggling to cope with a $115-million cut in government funding that was imposed in 2012.
CBC lost a chunk of money, when it was outbid in November for rights to broadcast National Hockey League games on television by the private company, Rogers Communications Inc. As well, revenues from television advertising are down across the market as more and more young people turn away from traditional media.
