Premier and minister slam anti-immigration flyer

“Hateful” is how the premier of the province of Ontario characterized anti-immigration flyers that were circulated in Brampton, a city just west of Toronto. The leaflets show a picture of a group of Caucasians above a separate photo of  a group of Sikhs with captions that read “from this…to this…” and “Is This What You Want?”

“They can’t be tolerated,” said Premier Kathleen Wynne in a written statement and again at a Sikh celebration in Toronto Sunday. “That kind of divisive action really is not consistent with who we are as Canadians.

“Far outside mainstream Canadian opinion”

Employment Minister Jason Kenney, who also attended the celebration said the flyers are far outside mainstream Canadian opinion.

Brampton has a population of about half a million people of who about 200,000 are of South Asian descent.

Police are investigating to see if the flyers could be considered a hate crime.
