Teens charged in phony emergency calls

Three Canadian teens are facing charges in a rash of phony emergency calls to police across North America. The practice is called “swatting” because it involves trying to get SWAT teams in the U.S.  or emergency first responders in Canada to respond to threats like bomb cares.

One 16 year-old boy facing 60 criminal charges, allegedly used his Twitter account to invite people to give him addresses to which he directed police. Among the charges are public mischief, uttering death threats and conveying false information with intent to alarm.

Two of the teens are from the province of Ontario. One is from Quebec.
