The grand festival in the south of France was also the occasion for the premier of Canadian director Atom Egoyan‘s latest film called ‘The Captive’. And while the reviews are not great, Ryan Reynolds, another Canadian, is being hailed for delivering a great performance as the father of an abducted girl.

‘The Captive’ is also in competition as is Quebec-er, Xavier Dolan‘s latest, called ‘Mommy’

Elsewhere on the Croisette, ‘How to Train Your Dragon 2’ premiered Friday, receiving an out-of-competition screening. The animated feature was directed by Montrealer Dean DeBlois and stars the voice of Jay Baruchel as Hiccup.
