Black Fashion Week in Montreal

Black Fashion Week is the brainchild of designer Adama Ndiaye of Senegal. It is her way of bringing African fashion to the world.

Ndiaye had worked in Paris with little success.  When she returned to her native Senegal, she was a big hit.  It was then that the idea for Black Fashion Week began to take shape. She wanted to showcase other African designers, bringing their creations to markets further afield.

“Black culture is so rich and so intense and so vibrant,  So I really wanted to show that to Europe first.  And Montreal is the first step for us to go to America.” Ndiaye told CBC news.

This show, the second event in Montreal, will feature Ndiaye’s own work as well as collections from Cameroon, and from Ivory Coast, Timite Zeyne‘s work will be featured.  Helmer, originally from Haiti and now based in Montreal, will also be featured in the event.

From Montreal, Black Fashion Week moves on to Dubai, and then to Washington.
