Across this vast land, millions of people will be celebrating Canada Day today.

Today marks the 147th anniversary of the founding of Canada, and this year is also the 150th anniversary of the conference in Charlottetown, Prince Edward Islande, in which leaders of the then several colonies (now provinces) came together to discuss and lay the foundation for the eventual union which created Canada on July 1, 1867
It’s the national festival with major celebrations in almost every city in the country.

The national capital, Ottawa, is the focus of events however, with much pomp and circumstance, along with top notch entertainers, and major fireworks displays in the evening.
The weather for the national capital promises to be, if anything, too perfect, with sunshine and temperatures climbing to about 30 degrees Celsius for the many thousands expected to form the vast crowds in front of Canada’s Parliament buildings.
Indeed the weather promises to be ideal in most places across the country for the hundreds of celebrations, parades, performances, and major evening fireworks displays in cities and towns across the country.
The only sad note on an otherwise glorious day is that for ex-pats and friends in London England, and New York City, the big events that have taken place there in the past, have been cancelled after two major sponsors pulled their funding.
