Celine Dion was at home in Quebec yesterday, for a charity event in Montreal.
A choral competition called, ‘Sing for Ste. Justine‘, raised $827,065 for the Montreal children’s hospital.
174 choirs from Ontario, Quebec, and New Brunswick participated by posting a video of themselves singing a Celine Dion song online, to enter the contest.
Les Petits chateurs de Laval, with 300 singers from eight to 23 years of age, was chosen as a favorite by a jury of Quebec musicians. People paying $5 a vote, online, chose Chorale de l’Externat Mont-Jesus-Marie as the winner.
Dion sang the last song of the event with the 66-member elementary school choir from Montreal.
In a news conference following the event, Dion commented on the opportunity to be part of the audience saying, “I’m never seated in a theatre or beautiful places to be able to be part of watching and listening to other people sing.”
“It was extremely touching.” she said of the experience.
When asked by reporters about the health of husband Rene Angelil. Dion said, “He’s working really hard on his health and he’s being a dad at the house which I’m really happy about.”
Rene Angelil, 72, is credited with discovering Celine Dion,and has managed her career all these years, The father of their three children had surgery in December 2013 to remove a cancerous tumour.
At the time, the day-to-day management of Dion’s career was taken on by entertainment mogul and longtime friend, Aldo Giampaolo.
