‘Genie Army’ comes home

Eugenie Bouchard is enjoying a warm welcome home to Montreal. “I’m just really excited,” the 20-year-old from Westmount, Quebec, told reporters. “It’s going to be my first match since Wimbledon.”

She is playing in the Roger’s Cup, a tournament played in two cities; Toronto and Montreal.  This year the women play in Montreal and the men play in Toronto.  Next year they alternate.

“The Cup is in Montreal so it’s special but I have to prepare like it’s any tournament,” Bouchard said. “I only think one match at a time.”

Sunday was a day devoted to the fans and media. Bouchard signed photos and tennis balls and listened to a tribute chant from the Genie Army, a group of fans who flew in from Australia to see her play in her hometown.

Bouchard is the fifth seed in the 56-woman event and will likely play her first match on Tuesday evening.
