Stabbing mars Toronto’s Caribbean Carnival

A 14-year-old boy has been charged with attempted murder and weapons offences in the stabbing of a 19-year-old man along the Caribbean Carnival parade route in Toronto on Saturday. The man who suffered life-threatening wounds to the chest is in serious condition in an apparent altercation.

This is the second consecutive year of troubles at the popular parade. Last year a teenager was run over by a float.

The parade is the marquee event of a three-week festival popularly known as Caribana. People come from all over the world to attend the festival which is now, in its 47th year.

The names of neither the victim nor alleged attacker have been released. Canada’s Youth Criminal Justice Act forbids publication of the name of any accused under the age of 18.
