Recent immigrants boosting exports beyond the US market

The Conference Board of Canada discovered that entrepreneurial immigrants to Canada are more likely to export to markets other than the nearby US market.

In studying 15,000 small and medium-sized businesses, started by immigrants who arrived in the last five years, the board compared them with other businesses of the same size.

Nearly 12 per cent of the immigrant-owned businesses export goods and services beyond the US market compared with just seven per cent of non immigrant-owned businesses.  We’ll look into the factors behind this growing trend in the upcoming week.
