Canada’s Women’s Rugby team is going to the final for the first time ever.
After a hard-fought victory in Paris yesterday, before 20,000 fans cheering on the home-team, the Canadians prevailed and beat France 18 – 16.
Magali Harvey scored the winner and Canada squeaked through to victory in the Women’s World Cup Rugby semi-final.
“Obviously it was a very loud stadium, so we really had to keep tight, keep controlled, and obviously we wanted to control ourselves and stay connected, Canada captain Kelly Russell, told reporters following the match.
“We really knew we had to come out hard in the second half, and we believe in playing rugby and exploiting opportunities that are in front of you,” Russell said. “We’re a fit team, and that carried us through the second half.”
Yesterday’s other semi-final saw England beat Ireland 40 -7
Canada will face England in Sunday’s final.
Canada played England to a 13 – 13 tie earlier in the tournament. “England is England. They play the same as us. It’s go forward rugby, direct rugby,” Canadian coach Francois Ratier said. “If we match them physically, then everything is possible. And we will match them.”
