A Canadian company discriminated against a man by telling him it “only hires white men” and sending him abusive texts, and so, it must pay him $8,000 in damages, ruled the Ontario Human Rights Tribunal.
Malek Bouraoui had applied for a job with Ottawa Valley Cleaning and Restoration. He says he received a call from a man named Jesse, who asked what country he was from and whether he was “white or black.”
Asking about race or place of origin is prohibited under the Canadian Human Rights Act passed in 1977 and in effect right across the country.
