Canada donates Ebola protection gear

Canada will send $2.5 million worth of specialized equipment worn to protect health care workers treating Ebola patients in West Africa. The supplies will include special masks, globes, face shields, gowns and hooded coveralls.

Shortages of these supplies have been reported by the World Health Organization and the Canadian donation will depend on exactly what that UN body specifies that it needs.

The donation will come from the Canadian government’s National Emergency Strategic Stockpile and the First Nations and Inuit Health Branch.

The number of Ebola cases in West Africa could start doubling every three weeks, says the World Health Organization and it could cost nearly $1 billion to contain the outbreak.
