One of three men arrested by federal police in 2010 on terrorism charges, has entered a plea of guilty.

Hiva Alizadeh was believed to be the ringleader of the group, allegedly plotting attacks in Canada.
He was sentenced to 24 years, but with time already served, the sentence is effectively reduced to 18 years in a federal prison.
Along with the plea came a statement of facts saying he had wanted to create a terrorist cell in Canada and spent two months in Afghanistan in 2009. There he learned about firearms and remote-detonated bomb-making.
He smuggled back violent propaganda videos, instructional materials and 56 electronic circuit boards specifically designed for use in remotely detonated bombs.
He later met and attempted to radicalize Misbahuddin Ahmed, an Ottawa hospital technician, and a former London, Ont., pathologist Khurram Sher

Ahmed was convicted in July of conspiring to knowingly facilitate a terrorist activity and participating in the activities of a terrorist group.
Sher was found not guilty of planning terrorist activity.
Meanwhile, in August, two Calgary Alberta brothers were identified as having left Canada to join the terrorist group ISIS. Three other Calgarians hae earlier been identified as having fought with ISIS, although those three are all believed killed.
This week, another Canadian who has joined the ranks of ISIS and who regularly posts on Twitter with Islamic sayings, photos, and often praises the atrocities of ISIS, was unmasked according to Canada’s National Post newspaper.
Posting under the name of Abu Turaab, he always appeared in online photos hiding his face with a scarf and often wearing ski goggles as well
The Post has identified him as Mohammed Ali a 23-year-old former resident of Mississauga, Ontario and says he told his parents he was flying to Turkey for a visit in April. It’s believed he then crossed the border into Syria.
