Mask maker enables arrest of suspect

A Canadian who makes what he calls “the most realistic masks in the world” helped the FBI track down a man they were looking for in connection with a bank robbery.

Realflesh Masks is a small company in the province of Quebec and is owned by Ian Marier. He got involved in the case after one of his U.S. customers spotted photos issued by police searching for a suspect in bank robberies in the Philadelphia area.

‘One of our masks’

“What was on that picture was one of our masks,” Marier told the public broadcaster, CBC. “I contacted the FBI with that picture and a picture of my mask and they realized they were looking for the wrong guy.” Marier also provided information about the man who had purchased the mask.

Dion Jordan was arrested on October 19 and will be charged with the robberies, and some more serious charges including murder and aggravated assault.

Bittersweet feeling for owner

It’s a bittersweet feeling for Marier knowing that his work is good enough to fool seasoned investigators. “I don’t want people to use our masks to commit crimes, but now it’s like proof that we do something really spectacular,” he said.

“I would just hope that something like that would never happen again.”
