Princess Royal in Canada

Her Royal Highness, Princess Anne arrived in Canada yesterday. Accompanied by her husband, Vice Admiral Timothy Laurence, the couple is staying at Government House in Ottawa, the residence of the Canada’s Governor General.

The Princess Royal attended the Remembrance Day Ceremony in Ottawa today and conveyed a message from her mother, Queen Elizabeth II. “Seventy-five years ago, King George VI and Queen Elizabeth dedicated this National War Memorial in honour of all those who paid the supreme sacrifice in the Great War.”

Today, Governor General David Johnston formally rededicated the monument, a major landmark in the Canadian capital, in the name of all who have died in the service of Canada.

On this, Princesse Anne’s 20th visit, she is also here to honour “everyday heroes”.  She will be meeting with police officers and aboriginal youth.

Princesse Anne has a Canadian daughter-in-law.  Autumn Kelly, met Peter Phillips, her future husband, at the Grand Prix in Montreal in 2003.  The couple were married in 2008 and have two little girls.
