Two teenagers were assaulted by a group of four or five people early Saturday in South Surrey, British Columbia and one of them later died in hospital. Police are calling for witnesses to come forward.

Dario Bartoli, aged 15 is thought to have been with friends who were drinking alcohol during the day. Shortly before 3am he and a friend were assaulted with weapons and they fled to a nearby house. The two were taken to hospital where Bartoli later died. His friend had minor injuries and was released.
‘Wishing we stayed with you’
Some teens tweeted news of Bartoli’s death, among them someone who had been with him before it happened.
“Wishing we stayed with you for a couple extra hours last night and drove you home,” said one tweet.
‘You think your children are safe’
Neighbour Irene Kraschkowski said to lose someone so young so quickly has had a devastating effect on the community’s sense of safety
“You think your children are safe and especially in this park.” she said. “We come here all the time, and I’ve never seen any violence of any kind.”
