The idea of Santa and his reindeer was created by a quiet American lawyer early in the 19th Century. We see Santa and his reindeer crossing in front of the moon and over a gingerbread town. Santa's red and the reindeers' brown is contrasted with a deep, dark blue that dominates the drawing.

A Christmas Eve treat for RCI listeners

Continuing a tradition that began several years ago and lapsed with the demise of RCI radio in 2012, one of Canada’s foremost actors, David Calderisi, joins us on this Christmas Eve.

Mr. Calderisi has worked extensively on the stage, in cinema and on television in Canada and the U.K., and has always, most graciously when asked, agreed to join us at this time of year.

A master at bringing words to life, he currently tours with a one-man show on the life and work of the Persian polymath, philosopher, mathematician, astronomer and poet, Omar Khayyam.

We invite you to sit back for a little while.

Imagine, if you will, that you are gathered around a radio–as many once did at this time of year.

Feel free to let your imagination expand as Mr. Calderisi shares with us two Christmas classics written by an American early in 19th Century and a Welshman in the middle of the 20th Century.

Mr. Calderisi joined us from his home in Toronto.
