Canada contributes to world’s largest telescope

Canada will contribute 243.5 million dollars and help build one of the world’s largest telescopes. The Thirty Meter Telescope will start scanning the sky from the top of Hawaii’s Mauna Kea volcano in 2023.

The Canadian contribution will mostly be spent in this country on optics technologies that will be developed by the government’s National Research Council and several Canadian companies. Some parts will be made by Dynamic Structures Limited based in the western province of British Columbia.
