After meeting “leading private sector economists” on Thursday (April 9) Canada’s Finance Minister Joe Oliver was eager to repeat that the Canadian government was going to “balance the budget this year, while putting money back in the pockets of hard-working Canadian families.” The federal budget will be tabled April 21.
In a press conference after his meeting Minister Oliver was asked how the government could pay down the federal deficit, and deal with declining oil prices. When asked when the federal budget implementation bill would be tabled, given there were only about eight weeks of sittings left in the House of Commons before the federal election in October, he could not give a date.
