Teen gunned down trying to retrieve mobile phone

Eighteen-year old Jeremy Cook was shot and killed after tracking down a cellphone he had left in a taxi in London, Ontario early on Sunday morning.

New technology enables people to find their smartphones, laptops or other electronic devices.

Multiple gunshot wounds

Police say Cook and a relative approached a car occupied by three men at the back of a strip mall at around 5:15 a.m. After a discussion, the men started to drive away and Cook dived onto the hood of the car. Police say shots were fired and Cook died of multiple gunshot wounds on the scene.

They are looking for three men about 18 to 21 years old. Cook had no connection to his attackers.

A police spokesman said he had no problem with apps that enable a person to trace the location of their phones. He added that the shooting wasn’t Cook’s fault, but that people should call police if there’s any potential for violence.

Some Apple customers in Montreal have said that in the past, police were too busy to accompany them in tracking down their lost or stolen devices.
