Celine Dion completed the 7,700-kilometre round-trip from their home in Las Vegas to his bedside in Boston. Rene Angelil is “fighting very hard” for his life at the hospital where he is receiving life-saving cancer treatment, according to the Las Vegas Sun newspaper.
In an interview with the paper Dion talked about her husband, and former manager’s insistence that she get back into performing “before he goes.” She said, “The reality is hard, but we have the ticket to live today, Today we’re alive and we’re going for it.”
Last summer Celine Dion put her career on hold to care for her husband who had been diagnosed with throat cancer for the second time in 2013.
“It’s going to be hard,”
Following major surgery Rene Angelil was unable to speak and could only be fed by tube, Dion revealed three months ago. In March she announced her return to the stage. “He wants me to be here. He wants me strong. He wants me back” she explained.
This past weekend Dion performded in a charity benefit with Italian tenor, Andrea Bocelli at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas. Her new show opens at Caesars Palace in Las Vegas on August 27th. Forty performances are scheduled until January 17th.
“It’s going to be hard,” Dion said. “When the curtain opens, I don’t know how strong I will be that night.” She said she will be leaning on fans for emotional support.
