Orphaned in India, reunited in Canada

Adopted into different families ten years ago, two little girls from an orphanage in India, stayed connected through Facebook.  Tara Singh began a new life in Kamloops, British Columba when she was four.  Anna Dalhaug went to a family in Norway at five.

They had been inseparable in the orphanage. “I was really sick…and a lot of kids in the orphanage didn’t want to come near. The only person who came near me was Anna,” says Tara.

Anna says it was not difficult. “I’m the kind of person who loves everyone whether they’re healthy or sick … she’s like my little sister.”

Mohini Singh, Tara’s mother told CBC radio in Kamloops last week that, “It was really important to bring them together because there was a hole in my daughter’s soul. I knew she missed Anna so I brought them together so they can move forward.” She said, “Tara was very emotional about this relationship and I felt this would complete the circle for her.”

Mohini Singh explained, “I’m a big proponent of adoption. I believe if you settle a child you settle a family and you give someone a life.

“I’ve got pictures of them from the orphanage when they were little. It’s sort of like going back to their roots.” She said, as a mother, it was up to her to reunite her daughter with this loved-one.

Tara has big plans for Anna’s stay; they’re visiting Vancouver, and they’ll do some para-sailing as well as go camping in the wilderness. “I really want to show her off to my friends” Tara said.

When Anna Dalhaug returns to Norwar in mid-August, the plans will then begin for Tara’s visit there.
