A sex party will take place in Toronto on August 14th for people with physical and mental limitations. It’s a masquerade called Deliciously Disabled, but organizers say it should not be called an orgy.
Canada has been a leader in accepting differences in sexual orientation, for example legalizing same-sex marriage in 2005. This set the stage for more frank talk about sex and organizers hope will make it easier for people with disabilities to be open as well.
‘We are sexual beings’
“The reality is that we are sexual beings,” said Path Danforth, vice-chair of the Council of Canadians With Disabilities. “It’s an issue that remains seldom talked about, which I find quite bizarre.”
“This is a sex-positive play party,” says organizer Fatima Mechtab. The difference between that an an orgy she says, is that people can attend the event but they don’t have to participate. They can just be voyeurs. She adds people can be intimate with their partners or explore some sexual activity.
The party can accommodate 125 people including abut 25 wheelchairs. Tickets are $20 each but personal support workers can attend for free. There will also be interpreters for the hearing impaired.
