Another pop star comes out after Orlando massacre

Indie pop star Beatrice Martin, known as Coeur de Pirate, has come out as a queer woman because of the massacre at a gay dance club in Orlando, Florida.  In a blog, the Montreal musician says she was prompted to be more honest for the 49 people were shot to death and 53 injured at the Pulse nightclub on June 12.

‘Love knows no race, religion, gender or orientation’

She explained that she felt romantic feelings for a girl when she was just seven years old and later repressed such feelings. She said she should not be afraid that people will stop listening to her music because of who she wants to love.

She added that she was coming out for her daughter “who needs to learn that love knows no race, religion, gender or orientation.”
