Comicon honours Star Trek 50th with Kirk

Comicon Montreal is creating a home-coming with William Shatner‘s attendance at the event this year. Shatner, who played Captain James T. Kirk on the original Star Trek television series, grew up in Montreal.

Comicon opens at noon today and runs over the weekend at the Palais de Congres, a venue that can accomodate thousands.

There will be photo-ops with Shatner this afternoon and a Q & A session this evening. Tomorrow evening, Communications Officer Lt. Uhura, Nichelle Williams will also be in attendance, as will actors Kate Mulgrew, Captain Janeway from Star Trek: Voyager, and Brent Spinner, who played Data, the android, on Star Trek: The Next Generation. They’ll share their memories of the Voyages of the Starship Enterprise.

Nichelle Williams was under contract to NASA, at one point, in her career. Nichelle took on the daunting task of successfully recruiting the first women and minority astronauts for the Space Shuttle Program. She received NASA’s distinguished Public Service Award for her pioneering efforts.

Also in Montreal for the event is a villain for the grandchildren of the original Star Trek fans. Tom Felton, who played Draco Malfoy, in the Harry Potter films will be meeting fans of another film franchise.
