Royal watchers and many other Canadians are delighted to learn that the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge along with their two young children will visit Canada starting on September 24. Canada is a parliamentary democracy and Queen Elizabeth II is the sovereign and represented here by the governor-general. The queen’s role is largely symbolic and not everyone agrees Canada should remain a monarchy. That said, there is much excitement whenever the royals visit.
Prince William, Duke of Cambridge, is second in line to succeed Elizabeth after his father Charles. He and his wife Kate visited Canada in 2011 as newlyweds, but this will be the first official visit. Kensington Palace today confirmed they will bring their children Prince George, 3, and Princess Charlotte, 1, with them.

Royals to see spectacular scenery
They will land in the western city of Victoria, named for Queen Victoria who was queen of the United Kingdom, and thus of British North America from 1837 to 1876.
From there they will take a float plane to Vancouver and visit a charity for addicted mothers and the Immigrant Services Society of B.C. and attend other events.
There will be opportunities to take in the majesty of the western Canadian wilderness including an aerial tour of the Great Bear Rain Forest, a visit to an indigenous community and a traditional canoe trip in Haida Gwaii, the archipelago formerly known as the Queen Charlotte Islands.
There will be a visit to the northern territory of Yukon and a children’s party with invited military families.
