Jean-Marc Vallée, the Canadian director from Montreal, Quebec, won his first Emmy Award last night, as the outstanding director in a limited series.

The critically acclaimed Vallée, 54, was among the winners associated with the ‘Big Little Lies’ TV show.
The HBO series has a heavy-hitting cast including Nicole Kidman, who won the Emmy for best lead actress in a TV series, and her co-producer Reese Witherspoon who also won for the program, and Laura Dern who won best supporting actress in a limited series or movie.
Jean-Marc Vallée was generously credited by his colleagues in their acceptance speeches.
And in the press room, Laura Dern told reporters that working with Vallée was like “doing a little dance” every day and she loved that he was “gender blind”, as she described him.
Jean-Marc Vallée’s 2005 movie, C.R.A.Z.Y. won him both the ACTRA and the Genie Award in Canada the following year.
