At least eighty fires are burning around the country at present, and many are still not under control.

According to the Swedish Civil Contingencies Agency (Myndigheten för samhällsskydd och beredskap, or MSB), the situation is worst in Gävleborg, Jämtland and Dalarna (areas in central Sweden).

In Härjedalen municipality, in Jämtland County 60 buildings have been evacuated.

There is also an acute shortage of rescue personnel and equipment in several places around Sweden.

In Pålgård, in Jämtland’s Ragunda municipality, able-bodied adults are asked to report to the council by telephone to help with the fire fighting. So far over 100 people have called in, says Niclas Jarlås at the municipality to news agency TT.

Places that are being evacuated:

  • In Härjedalen, Jämtland County, a fire in forest by Lillåsen means people should leave the Olingsjövallen area. And all those near Trängslet military shooting range should evacuate, as the wildfire is spreading fast north.
  • All those living in Enskogen in Ljusdal, Gävleborg, should evacuate as wildfire is spreading fast.
