Protesters say government is muzzling scientists

Events are planned in 17 Canadian cities to pressure the federal government to stop hampering scientists from speaking publicly about their research. A group called Evidence For Democracy says taxpayers pay for the research and have a right to see it whether it is in the field of public health, crime prevention, fisheries management or climate change.

Canada’s information commissioner confirmed earlier this year that her office will investigate allegation the federal government is muzzling its scientists.

Among the events planned for today is a rally in the western city of Vancouver starting at 11 a.m. pacific time in front of the Vancouver Art Gallery.
