Just after lunchtime on January 2, the first day of work for many Canadians, Canada’s top 100 CEOs made what the average Canadian earns in an entire year, according to a paper released by the progressive think tank, the Canadian Centre for Policy Alternatives (CCPA).
In “All in a Day’s Work? CEO Pay in Canada” research associate Hugh Mackenzie found these CEOS made 171 times the average employee’s wages. In the 1980s, the CEOs made 40 to 50 times more.
RCI’s Wojtek Gwiazda spoke to David Macdonald, the Senior Economist at the Canadian Centre for Policy Alternatives about the issue of CEO pay.
