Two climate activists slipped through security, and disrupted the beginning of a question and answer session with Canada’s Prime Minister Stephen Harper at the Vancouver Board of Trade Monday (January 6).
One of the demonstrators stood behind the Prime Minister with a sign that read “Climate justice now”. The other, a woman stood behind Iain Black, the president of the board of trade with a sign saying “The Conservatives take climate change seriously,” with the sentence crossed out.
The incident occurred just as the question and answer session was to begin between the Prime Minister and Black. Security swiftly removed the activists from the stage after Black said: “I’d like to take a minute and have some folks removed from the stage.”
Prime Minister Harper quipped: “It wouldn’t be B.C. without it.”
Despite the security breach, the Prime Minister’s Office refused to comment on the incident.
The session with the Prime Minister continued with questions from the board president on the Canadian economy, the challenges facing numerous pipeline projects, and the question of Indigenous First Nation treaty rights.
