Canadian aerospace and train manufacturer Bombardier will transfer some human resources positions from its Montreal facility to Mexico as part of the layoffs announced in January, according to a Canadian Press report by Ross Marowits Friday (February 21). The human resources move involves 10 non-union positions.
The laid-off employees were notified of the change this week. According to the report, two have been let go and efforts will be made to redeploy the other eight elsewhere in Montreal.
“Everything we’re doing right now is about cost savings so it’s about streamlining processes,” spokeswoman Haley Dunne told Canadian Press.
The Montreal-based company announced 1,700 layoffs in its aerospace division January 21. Of the laid off, 1,100 are in the Montreal region and 600 are in the U.S.
