The statement starts “Without an announcement or any consultation, it appears that the federal government has decided to quietly collapse Canada’s national literacy and essential skills network.” Signed by the board of directors of the non-profit Canadian Literacy and Learning Network (CLLN), the statement is the latest cry of concern about a shift in federal government funding in Canada.

The statement was posted on the CLLN website on May 29, but for days before different organizations have been protesting and raising questions about federal government funding cutbacks to organizations which have been dealing with a variety of issues connected to literacy in Canada.

RCI’s Wojtek Gwiazda spoke to Lindsay Kennedy, the CEO of the Canadian Literacy and Learning Network about her board’s statement and the issues it raises.
