Emma Paulsen faces six animal cruelty and public mischief charges in the death of six dogs left in her care near the western city of Vancouver. In Canada, pet owners sometimes hire people to walk their dogs when they are away or at work.
Last May, Paulsen reported the dogs had been stolen from her pickup truck while she was using a washroom in a dog park. That sparked a massive search for the animals but they were later found dead in a nearby ditch.
Police said the dogs had died while enclosed in Paulsen’s vehicle while it was parked. This is the kind of story that attracts much public attention and the wrath of animal lovers.
