What is it about Unidentified Flying Objects that whets our imagination and tickles our fancy?

How many of us have gazed up at a star-filled summer sky and wondered about, well, the wonder of it all–no matter how rational we might fancy ourselves in everyday life?
How many other universes are out there? Are they filled with little green men? How many million light years away are those stars up there?
The questions are endless because–quite simply–it all remains pretty much of a mystery.
Be honest for sec. Doesn’t the idea of meeting a brother or sister from another planet rank right up near at the very top of your wish list?
All this is not to say that all UFOs–or any, for that matter–are filled with little green men paying visits from other planets and galaxies.

Most sightings, of course, do offer rational explanations. Still, a small percentage don’t.
Last weekend, researchers at Ufology Research in Winnipeg, Manitoba released the results of the largest study of UFOs in the world over the past 25 years.
Painstakingly compiling and analyzing all available data about reported sightings, the researchers found that 14,617 so-called celestial oddities–not all of them explainable–had been spotted over Canada since 1989.
Chris Rutkowski, a science writer and teacher, was the research co-ordinator of the project.
He says the group’s work doesn’t provide absolute proof about the existence of extraterrestrials. But is does raise some questions. Questions that might behoove us all to investigate.
He spoke to RCI by phone from Winnipeg.
