Following two days of meeting at a summit in Wales, leaders of the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) agreed on Friday (September 5) to increase defence spending, move towards two per cent of Gross Domestic Product as a goal, and to increase the alliance’s flexibiility and capacity to react quickly to security situations.
On Friday, Canada’s Prime Minister Stephen Harper promised to increase defence spending as necessary, and announced Canada had agreed to deploy Canadian soldiers as part of a special advisory force to be sent to Iraq.
