Canada’s Senate is spending $150,000 on outside consultants to examine how it communicates with reporters and the public, reports the news service Postmedia.
The Senate has been plagued by a spending scandal that has two senators and one former senator facing criminal charges. Things could get worse in early 2015 when the auditor-general is expected to release a sweeping audit of the upper chamber.
The Senate says it does not have to make public information about senators’ spending, but the scandal has pressured it to do so. What information is given out goes through a long process, leading to complaints about the amount of time it takes.
Postmedia reports that the company, Blueprint Public Relations will review the process over the next six months.
