A report by Canada’s national public broadcaster CBC that Canada is planning to choose Syrian refugees based on their religion has created a flurry of shocked reaction from lawyers, a refugee group, and Amnesty International Canada.
According to CBC journalist Laura Lynch, the Canadian government is seeking to resettle more Syrian refugees but only from the country’s religious minorities.
Canada, along with other Western nations, was asked to do more this past week at a conference on Syrian refugees held in Geneva by the UN High Commissioner for Refugees.
RCI’s Wojtek Gwiazda has a report.
