The temperature in the Gale Crater of Mars was a balmy high of -8 C today, warmer than almost every part of the country except for a couple of locations on Canada’s east and west coasts.

The information comes from the Rover Environmental Monitoring Stations (REMS). It which relays atmospheric information from the rover back to Earth, and is reporting a clear sunny day.

On Canada’s east coast Atlantic province of Newfoundland-Labrador, the provincial capital St John’s is expecting a high today of -4 C, although with wind chill it will feel like -12.   Ottawa, the national capital, is expecting a high of -8, but it will feel like -14. Regina (Saskatchewan) is looking at a high  of -25, with wind chill at -36. Edmonton (Alberta) high this afternoon will be  -17, but feel like -20. Yellowknife in the Northwest Territories will have a high of -25, but feel like -37

Vancouver (BC) will be above freezing at 8 C.

Before Canadians start looking for space flights to Mars, it should be noted that the temperature is expected to drop to around -72 with nightfall on the red planet
