Report: Secrecy and lax enforcement by Canada when dealing with military exports

On paper Canada has some of the strongest export controls in the world, but they are not being respected says Cesar Jaramillo, Program Officer with the anti-war advocacy group Project Ploughshares.

In a briefing paper released this month, he points to the most glaring example: the largest military export in Canadian history involving armoured vehicles to Saudi Arabia.

Announced a year ago, the deal should not have passed a human assessment, given the human rights situation in Saudi Arabia. Yet no confirmation of an assessment has been given by the Canadian government.
