More drilling on critical caribou land: scientist

Drilling for oil and gas wells continues on critical caribou habitat in the western province of Alberta, even though that province is supposed to develop a plan to restore those ranges by 2017. The iconic animals are in steep decline in many parts of the country due to the degradation of their habitat.

A scientist from the University of Montana in the U.S. says industry data show drilling continues even in areas that are already almost completely disrupted and where new exploration is banned.

This, says Mark Hebblewhite, will make it harder for Alberta to develop range recovery plans that are required by federal law.
