Mothers appeal to radicalized children to return

Mothers of children who have left home to join extremists fighting in Syria and Iraq are appealing to them to come home using a quote from the Muslim holy book, the Qur’an. The mothers include Muslims and non-Muslims from seven countries including Canada, France and the United States.

The Prophet Muhammad said ‘Paradise lies at the feet of your mother,’ quotes an open letter posted on social media websites by Mothers for Life, adding that “”By leaving us against our will to give up your own life and take those of others, you have put our struggle, pain and honour under your feet and walked over it.”

Thousand have left

Thousands of young men and women have left Western countries to join the Islamic State group including Canadians like Damian Clairmont who was killed in Syria last year.

“Social media right now seems to be their strength in recruiting our youth,” said Clairmont’s mother Chris Boudreau to Associated Press. “We’ve got to fight fire with fire.”
