Leopard cubs: Resistance is futile, when it comes to kittens

Ok I admit it, I too am a sucker for cute baby animal photos.

But how can you resist these two newcomers?

These are rare snow leopard cubs, born at the Assiniboine Park Zoo in Winnipeg, Manitoba on May 15.

They have been kept out of sight with mom, Batu,  since then, and will remain away from the public for the next eight weeks or so until they are able to get around on their own.

Zoo officials said the cubs weigh about 1.5kg each and both are males.

While it is hard to know the exact mumber of snow leopards left in the wild due to the difficulty in finding them in their high altitude environements, estimates are anywhere from 3,000-7.000, with about 700 others in zoos around the world.

The zoo actually had a big month in May with the simultaneous arrival of a baby musk-ox as well.

Zoo officials say all three are doing well.
