Shania Twain on Canadian route of North American tour

Shania Twain, is at the beginning of her ‘Rock this Country’ tour of North America. It debuted in Seattle, U.S.A. on June 5th, to a loud and enthusiastic crowd. Then the homecoming, crossing the border into Vancouver for two well-received shows earlier this week.

Tonight it’s the first of two shows in Edmonton, and the entourage will travel east culminating in a show in Montreal on June 28th and then moving on to Madison Square Garden in New York City on June 30th.

The 49 year-old, newly blonde, superstar, grew up in challenging conditions in Sudbury and Timmins in northern Ontario.  Her story is inspirational. Blessed with a voice and song-writing skills, her mother encouraged her, some might say exploited her, from childhood. But Shania was determined to make it. Heartbreak came early with the death of her parents in a car accident when she was 22. At the time she put her ambitions on hold to provide for her younger siblings, singing and dancing with the troupe in the nightly revue at the Deerhurst Inn.

Shania Twain endured the much more public heartbreak of the end of her marriage, at the top of her career.  Shattered by the double betrayal of her former best friend and assistant, who left with her husband, legendary music producer Mutt Lange, Shania retreated from public life and slowly began to regain her voice, and her strength

In a twist worthy of a great country tune, she eventually married the ex-husband of the woman who stole her man. Frederic Thiebaud was by her side during the two-year residency at Caesar’s Palace in Las Vegas. The run provided a routine around the music and the audiences and the opportunity to get her act together again.

One of the best-selling music artists ever, Shania Twain has said this will be her last major tour, but judging from the great reviews on Instagram so far, there may be a lot of smaller tours in the future.

The woman described as the Queen of Pop has a lot of dedicated fans in Canada.
