For the eleventh straight year, serious crime has dropped in Canada. Police services reported almost 1.8 million Criminal law incidents in 2014, excluding traffic offences. That was a drop of three per cent from the previous year and the lowest level since 1969.
The decrease was mostly attributed to a drop in break-ins and robberies, according to the government agency Statistics Canada. There was however an increase in child pornography and terrorism.
In spite of a steady decrease in serious crime, the current Canadian government has adopted a tough-on-crime agenda which includes mandatory minimum sentences.
