The Perseid meteor shower is the annual event which takes place in mid-August. It usually has more meteors per hour than any other metero shower of the year. This streak appeared in the sky above a statue in Villarejo de Salvanes, Spain, in the early hours of August 12th last year.

Perseid Week

Perseid showers overhead this week will have many Canadians looking up into the night sky in an effort to catch one of the natural phenomenon.

And the viewing should be particularly good this year, as August 14th is a new moon, so there will be no moonlight to dim the spectacle.

We’ll speak with an astronomer later in the week to hear more about the Perseid meteor shower, and to catch-up on some of the other developments in the solar system and beyond.
